Is homeschooling legal?
Yes.
Homeschooling is legally recognised in Namibia under the Education Act (Act No. 16 of 2001). Parents who choose to homeschool their children must apply for registration with the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture.
How to registerHow do I register?
Parents or legal guardians complete Form 4 – Application for Registration for Home Schooling and submit it directly to the Ministry.
Each application is considered individually.
Who is responsible for registration?
The parent or legal guardian is responsible for registering the learner for homeschooling.
Provides educational programmes and guidance but is not responsible for registering learners with the Ministry.
Can I choose my own curriculum?
Yes.
Families may choose the curriculum that best suits their child, provided it meets the Ministry's educational requirements.
Will the Ministry monitor my child's progress?
The Ministry may request progress reports or assessments to ensure that learners are receiving an appropriate education.
We recommend that parents keep organised academic records throughout the learner's homeschooling journey.
Our recommendation
Although some families choose not to register, Educe Homeschool Academy strongly recommends following the Ministry's registration process.
Registration provides peace of mind and helps avoid complications should your child later return to mainstream schooling or apply for further education.
